The Converse Economic Development Corporation and the City of Converse have joined together to promote green initiatives in Converse. The City of Converse City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to support the design intents advocated and certified by Build San Antonio Green for new and existing construction. This effort was supported by Converse Mayor Al Suarez who serves on the Board of Directors for Build San Antonio Green as well as by CEDC Board President Marc Gilbert.
The Converse EDC has and continues to host multiple “Converse Goes Green” events to reach out to the citizens of Converse and make them aware of green building opportunities available at low or no cost. These efforts are coordinated with CPS Energy, McCoy’s Building Supply, Bexar County Department of Community Resources, Waste Management and VIA Metropolitan Transport to name a few.
Converse EDC was recently awarded the Green Practitioner Award at the 2013 City of San Antonio Green Building Awards, an honor that came after months of work by the City and CEDC that demonstrated an ongoing commitment to green building, leadership and the impact Converse is beginning to have on other suburban cities in the San Antonio area.
